Heavy Equipment Operator
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled, safety-conscious Senior Heavy Equipment Operator to join our growing construction team. In this role, you will operate heavy machinery across active project locations—including ongoing work in Holliston and Shrewsbury, as well as a major upcoming multi-family apartment development in Worcester. The ideal candidate brings extensive field experience, takes pride in precision operation and proactive equipment maintenance, and plays a lead role in bringing high-impact regional projects to completion safely and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Machinery Operation: Safely and proficiently operate excavators and bulldozers for complex earthmoving, deep excavation, site grading, utility digging, and structural site preparation, alongside backhoes, loaders, and telehandlers/booms.
- Equipment Care & Preventive Maintenance: Perform daily pre- and post-operation inspections, basic servicing, and regular grease/lubrication routines using personal servicing tools to ensure optimal machine performance and eliminate preventable downtime.
- Site Preparation & Precision Execution: Read blueprints, grade stakes, and site layouts to execute precision land clearing, fine grading, and zone setup independently.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to OSHA standards, state building codes, site safety protocols, and personal protective equipment (PPE) mandates at all times.
- Coordination & Documentation: Work closely with site superintendents, project managers, and ground crews across various project locations. Maintain accurate daily logs of equipment hours, inspection reports, and maintenance checks.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of proven hands-on experience operating excavators and bulldozers in demanding commercial/civil construction environments.
- Licensing: Active Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License (Class 2A required; 1C strongly preferred).
- Equipment Ownership: Must own and bring a functional grease gun (along with basic daily maintenance tools) for routine on-site equipment servicing.
- Reliable Transportation: Willingness and ability to travel to job sites in Central and MetroWest Massachusetts (Holliston, Shrewsbury, and Worcester areas).
- Technical Mastery: Advanced knowledge of hydraulic systems, machine controls, and mechanical troubleshooting to diagnose minor equipment issues on site.
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift heavy materials, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and perform physical tasks associated with site prep and machine servicing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in setting up and operating Topcon grade lasers for precision site grading and elevation verification.
- Dual licensure holding both 2A (Excavating) and 1C (Telescoping Booms/Lulls) restrictions.
- Rigging background or specialized experience on large-scale multi-family and commercial development sites.
Pay: $30.36 - $36.56 per hour
