Summary of this position The Dean of Students provides the leadership for programming at the all-County Center Based Programs and coordinates building operations.  In coordination with the Principal, the Dean will support the immediate and direct supervision over all teachers, aides, program assistants, and ancillary staff.  The Dean must have strong leadership and Behavior Management skills, reports directly to the Director of Special Education.  The Behavior Program provides programs and services for emotionally impaired students.

 

Qualifications  

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or Related Field
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or license in a related field EI and ASD preferred.
  • Administrator of Special Education Approval or willingness to complete.
  • Minimum three years of related experience
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license and the ability to travel to local schools throughout St. Clair County.
  • Ability to properly operate required office equipment such as a personal computer, fax machine, copier and the like.

Demonstrated skill and experience in working with others and being part of a team

Demonstrated ability and willingness to maintain detailed records and notes

Demonstrated ability and practice of outstanding and reliable attendance

Demonstrated ability and skill to prioritize multiple demands

Demonstrated understanding of proactive behavior strategies including ASD.

Trained in CPI, Crisis Prevention Institute or willingness to be trained.

 

Duties and Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following 

  • Work cooperatively with the Michigan Department of Education Office of Special Education and the Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education (MAASE) to ensure compliance of local school districts and public school academies within St. Clair County with Federal and state regulations relating to students with disabilities.  Work as part of a robust team of professionals and paraeducators to meet the needs of students in need of behavioral support.
  • Support the administrative needs of all RESA programs when administrators are not available.
  • Serve as an advocate for public education and St. Clair County Schools.
  • Supervise and evaluate building staff.
  • Develop and implement standard operational procedures on a continuous improvement basis to increase operating quality and efficiency; conduct staff training on implementation of procedures in coordination with building leader.
  • Provide leadership in Curriculum Development.
  • Participate in the review of the St. Clair County Plan for Delivery of Special Education Programs and Services; ensure local compliance with the RESA Plan.
  • Supervisor to SCCRESA ancillary staff.
  • Maintain and Update County Special Education Personnel.
  • Provide oversight of M.E.T., I.E.P.C. meetings. Evaluate paperwork for compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of current legal mandates and requirements related to instruction of students with disabilities; recommend changes to programs, services and operations as necessary.
  • Promote, support St. Clair County Schools’ organizational culture by reinforcing Board of Education goals, policies and procedures and the organization’s vision, mission, and continuous improvement plan.
  • Coordinate Parent programs within the center and address parent concerns and complaints as they arise.
  • Work within an assigned team to identify, design, manage, evaluate and assess products, services, and IEP Data System.
  • Regular and punctual attendance each scheduled work day as published in the academic calendar

  • Create, cultivate and maintain strong relationships with students, parents and other staff members within the organization as well as with our partner districts and agencies
  • Time management and prioritization of multiple demands in order to not only comply with legal mandates, but to support the mission of the St. Clair County RESA
  • Maintain accurate records to be used by others to make decisions related to student needs
  • Willingness to obtain necessary or identified additional training and skills to improve performance in the position
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs of students and staff and to participate fully in the objectives of the program, building and district in order to provide safe and secure learning environments for all students
  • Coordinate with the Supervisor of Transportation/Building and Grounds for effective Operation of those areas.
  • Develop systems to address behavior needs of students; coordinate the entrance and exit procedures of students in the program.

Compensation

Employment Date:                July 1, 2026, pending Board approval and successful 

completion of employee entrance drug screening and background checks.

Length of Contract:              Non-union, at-will administrator - 11 months, 236 days

Salary Range:                        Commensurate with education level and experience

Fringes:                                  Administrator benefit package
