Credence has an immediate need for System Engineers specializing in maritime navigation systems and sensors to include marine-grade commercial and/or militarized, (encrypted) Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Radar (solid state X band / S band), Automatic Identification Systems (AIS), Doppler Speed Log (DSL) and other similar shipboard sensors. Ideal candidates have a technical and/or engineering background providing integration, engineering, and installation services in support of shipboard navigation systems and sensors for the United States Coast Guard, United States Navy, United States Army (afloat), Merchant Marines, or the commercial maritime industry.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the duties listed below

Responsible for the development of integration engineering technical documentation/artifacts, (i.e. engineering changes, system interface diagrams, site survey reports, test plans, drawing redlines, etc.) in support of the USCG’s System Engineering Lifecycle (SELC) process. Provide subject matter expertise to USCG active duty and civilian personnel throughout the development process; from requirements development, design, and prototype, to implementation of complete navigation systems or individual sensors. Serve as the onsite representative (OSR) and navigation system/sensor expert during prototype installations or other field test activities. Travel CONUS/OCONUS to provide field support on USCG cutters, boats, and shore stations, as required.

Education, Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must possess an active Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's Degree in the field of Electrical, System, Network, or Telecommunications Engineering with four (4) years of relevant and current experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree may be substituted as follows
    • Comprehensive knowledge of DOD military specifications and standards. Demonstrated Expert with ten (10) years of concurrent, relevant experience in engineering, design, integration, corrective maintenance and installation of Command, Control and Communication Systems.
    • Extensive background and working knowledge of shipboard electronic navigation systems and sensors is desired.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications to draft reports, emails, and presentations, create system architecture and integration diagrams, and possess a thorough knowledge of performing independent research.
  • Capable of independent troubleshooting and resolution of system integration issues associated with navigation systems and sensors, (i.e, GPS, Radar, DSL) in a shipboard environment.
  • Capable of conducting site surveys/ship checks and documenting results in a professional report format.
  • Read, interpret, and provide redline edits to shipboard navigation system drawings, including AC and DC power, block wiring diagrams, arrangements, and elevations.
  • Posses technical expertise necessary to advise USCG technical and engineering personnel during the development and recapitalizaiton of shipboard navigation systems and sensors.
  • Develop system/sensor test plans and procedures for use in a lab environment or on a maritime asset.
  • Capable of installing, testing, and commissioning navigation systems/sensors when required, (i.e., prototype efforts or emergent situations.)
  • Provide system lifecycle risk identification and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and deliver Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) or Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) integration and engineering design solutions.
  • Capable of developing engineering documentation within an established USCG System Engineering Lifecycle (SELC) and Engineering Change (EC) process.
  • Provide on-site, phone, and email support for the purpose of technical corrective maintenance to resolve system casualties as required.
  • Deliver expert level knowledge of troubleshooting and corrective maintenance involving complex electronic navigation systems.

  • CONUS and OCONUS (i.e., HI, Guam, AK, Puerto Rico) travel (15-20%).
  • Office, lab, and industrial/shipboard working environments.
  • Work location is approx.. 60% remote/from home and 40% onsite (USCG Base Portsmouth, VA or remote USCG locations)
