What are the responsibilities and job description for the Culture Champion position at Creature?
Creature is an integrated design-build firm based in Birmingham, AL. Our focus is on developing a differentiated delivery platform that improves the lives of our employees and customers. We are focused on the delivery of facilities utilizing the Design, Manufacture, Construct (DMC) methodology. DMC replaces the century-old, siloed approach of the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Industry. A major component of our platform is our in-house Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and General Construction teams.
Creature is looking for a Cultural Champion to ensure that our unique culture remains intentional, vibrant, and resilient as we grow. This person will deeply understand, protect, and continuously promote the values that make Creature special: Accountability, Strong Communication, Compelling Conscientiousness, Ownership, and Accomplishment. The Cultural Champion will serve as the steward of our culture, supporting talent acquisition, onboarding, training, and leadership accountability to ensure every team member contributes to a respectful, high-performing environment.
This is not a traditional HR role—it is a culture-forward leadership position focused on ensuring our values are lived out across all levels of the company. This person will be empowered to influence every aspect of the employee experience and will collaborate with leaders across the company to foster unity, growth, and excellence.
- Develop a deep and ongoing understanding of Creature’s culture and its micro-evolutions over time.
- Lead and manage a recruiting and onboarding process that reflects and reinforces our cultural values.
- Attract, evaluate, and secure top-tier talent that aligns with our mission and values.
- Drive speed and consistency across all steps of the recruiting process (job postings, Working Genius, Judgement Index, DISC assessments, interviews, offer letters).
- Quickly identify and make fit vs. non-fit recommendations to protect team chemistry and cultural alignment.
- Establish and maintain strong recruiting partnerships with universities for interns, co-ops, and recent graduates; be accountable for success at career fairs and recruiting events.
- Hold managers accountable for the development of their people—including cultural reinforcement, technical skill-building, and professional growth.
- Ensure performance reviews are happening consistently, and that they reinforce both cultural and performance standards.
- Foster accountability for how employees treat one another—expecting love, respect, and high standards of collaboration.
- Formalize Creature’s training and development programs by coordinating with content experts and leaders
- Support leadership in building systems and rhythms that nurture and scale Creature’s culture across teams and locations.
- Serve as an active promoter and ambassador of Creature’s values, helping to make our cultural identity visible, actionable, and aspirational.
- 5 years of experience in talent development, culture-focused leadership, HR, recruiting, or organizational development.
- Proven experience promoting and protecting company culture through growth phases.
- Strong leadership, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to drive initiatives across teams and hold others accountable without direct authority.
- Deep belief in people and a commitment to developing both individuals and teams.
- Organized, proactive, and capable of building and managing systems.
- Experience working with recruiting platforms, assessment tools (e.g., DISC, Working Genius), and university outreach a plus.
