What are the responsibilities and job description for the Brand Designer position at Creature Theory?
BRAND DESIGNER | In-person, Wilmington, NC / https://www.creaturetheory.com/jobs
We’re on the hunt for a Brand Designer that’s anything but average. We’re looking for that person who values the creative process—not for the sake of process, but because it's how you push beyond the obvious to create work that's distinctive, strategically sound, and beautifully executed.
At Creature Theory you'll help build brands from the ground up, developing identity systems that are far more than a logo and create expressive packaging that doesn't just stand out on the shelf—it earns its place there.
For what it’s worth, we care less about trendy aesthetics and more about creating distinctive brands with personality, purpose, and staying power. From you, we need earned confidence, but without the ego. You need to be self-motivated, yet have a love for working as part of a team.
If your portfolio demonstrates smart, conceptual thinking, exceptional design craft, and a knack for creating work that's unique and distinctive, we'd love to see it. Tip: in particular, we’d love to see identity systems and package design. And huge bonus points if you’re willing to walk us through your process (that eventually yielded results), via a PDF or webpage. Think written ideation, sketches, early design directions, iterations & exploration. To us, how you got there is just as important as the final mark or front face.
If you have experience with design & development on the Shopify platform, video & motion work, hand-lettering or illustration, please make reference and point to example(s).
You'll thrive here if you:
• Believe a logo is only the beginning of a great identity—and can show that in your work.
• You nerd-out on typography: Finding typefaces, creating wordmarks, type layouts, etc.
• Get excited by expressive, character-filled packaging design that will surprise and delight.
• Enjoy collaboration, critique, getting freeback, giving feedback, and the messy middle of the creative process without letting it drag you down.
• Sweat the details without losing sight of the big idea. Seriously, you need to be good with details.
• Ready to work—hard. This is a small agency that prioritizes doing great work and having a good work-life balance over chasing big, boring clients. To make that work, we have to show up for each other and be ready to lock-in and rock it.
