Web Designer / Developer

Location: Sugarcreek, OH (In-Office Only)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Industry: Website Design & Marketing

About Us
We exist to amplify the work of people who are passionate about what they do — because when we help them tell their story clearly and design with intention, they grow. And that growth creates jobs, serves more people, and fuels human flourishing.

We build, maintain, and grow websites that deliver for clients who genuinely care about the work they’re doing. We’re a small, mission-driven team looking for a Web Designer / Developer who can blend creativity with technical know-how to bring purposeful design to life online.

About the Role
We’re hiring a Web Designer / Developer — someone who’s equally comfortable thinking through the look and feel of a website and making it work beautifully in a browser.

You’ll take creative ownership of client websites, from designing page layouts and visual assets in Adobe tools to developing them into functional, high-performing sites in HTML, WordPress, and other CMS platforms.

You don’t need to be a backend expert (yet), but you should be eager to learn. If you can build strong front-end experiences and are interested in understanding what happens under the hood, you’ll fit right in.

Important Note: This is an In-Office Role
We believe great collaboration happens when we’re in the same room. The energy, quick problem-solving, and spontaneous creativity that comes from being together is hard to replicate over Zoom. That’s why this role is based entirely in our Sugarcreek, OH office, and it’s built for someone who enjoys the dynamics of a healthy, creative team working shoulder to shoulder.

Working Environment
Our team is made up of individuals who strive to build their lives around the teachings of Scripture. While we welcome all applicants, this position requires someone who is comfortable and respectful working closely with a team that values faith as a central part of both life and work. A shared respect for that environment is essential for strong collaboration.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and build engaging, user-friendly websites that align with client goals and brand identity
  • Create layouts, graphics, and visual assets using Adobe Creative Cloud tools
  • Develop and customize websites with HTML& CSS, WordPress and other CMS platforms
  • Collaborate with content lead and ux lead to ensure cohesive storytelling and design
  • Ensure all designs are mobile-responsive, accessible, and optimized for performance
  • Manage updates and enhancements for existing client sites
  • Explore and learn light backend or integration tasks over time (bonus skill growth area)
  • Contribute ideas and creative direction that elevate the quality of client work

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong visual design skills and a solid understanding of UX/UI principles
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (especially Photoshop, Dreamweaver, XD)
  • Experience designing and developing websites in WordPress (or similar CMS)
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and responsive design
  • Familiarity with JavaScript and basic troubleshooting skills
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn backend concepts or CMS integrations
  • A collaborative spirit — someone who enjoys problem-solving as part of a team
  • A respectful approach to working in a faith-centered, Scripture-oriented environment

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with DNS. Email Setup, Domains, or hosting environments
  • Familiarity with Shopify, BigCommerce or other modern CMS tools
  • Understanding of SEO and site optimization best practices
  • A creative eye for motion, animation, or micro-interactions
  • A portfolio that shows both design range and front-end skill

Why This Role Matters
Our clients rely on us to make their websites not just beautiful, but effective — places where story, design, and performance work together to build trust and drive growth. Your role connects all of those pieces, helping clients communicate clearly and confidently in the digital space.

How to Apply
Send your resume and a short note (just a few paragraphs) about why this kind of work matters to you. Include a few links or samples of websites you’ve designed or built — especially ones that show both creative and technical skill. Send this to preston@creativewhs.com
