Job Summary
The Lead Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, loving, Christ-centered classroom environment where children can grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, physically, and academically. The Lead Teacher will lead daily classroom operations, maintain compliance with Illinois DCFS licensing standards, communicate professionally with families, and serve as a positive role model for children and staff.
The Lead Teacher must demonstrate patience, kindness, professionalism, teamwork, and a strong commitment to Christian values and quality early childhood education.
Duties
Classroom Leadership
- Lead and manage the daily classroom schedule and activities
- Maintain active supervision of children at all times
- Create a warm, welcoming, and nurturing classroom environment
- Implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities
- Encourage learning through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences
- Support children’s emotional, social, cognitive, physical, and spiritual development
- Maintain classroom routines and positive behavior guidance techniques
- Ensure classroom ratios are maintained according to Illinois DCFS regulations
Christian Leadership
- Model Christ-like behavior, kindness, patience, and respect
- Incorporate faith-based values and biblical principles into daily interactions
- Participate in chapel, prayer time, Bible stories, and faith-based activities
- Help children develop positive character traits such as kindness, honesty, sharing, and compassion
- Maintain a positive and encouraging attitude toward children, families, and coworkers
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom
- Follow all DCFS licensing standards and daycare policies
- Conduct daily health and safety checks
- Sanitize toys, tables, and classroom materials regularly
- Follow diapering, handwashing, food service, and nap procedures properly
- Respond appropriately to accidents, injuries, and emergencies
- Report concerns or incidents to administration immediately
Family Communication
- Build positive relationships with families
- Communicate daily with parents regarding child progress, behavior, meals, naps, and activities
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
- Address parent concerns respectfully and appropriately
- Participate in conferences and family events as needed
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate attendance records and classroom documentation
- Complete lesson plans on time
- Maintain child files and documentation as required
- Assist with assessments, observations, and developmental screenings
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development
- Help prepare classroom materials and bulletin boards
- Follow all Creative Kids policies and procedures
- Maintain active supervision of children at all times

- Implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities
- Encourage learning through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences

Requirements
Qualifications
- Must meet Illinois DCFS qualifications for Lead Teachers
- Previous childcare or classroom experience preferred
- High school diploma or GED required
- CDA, Early Childhood coursework, or degree preferred
- Must pass required background checks
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Must demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills
- Must be dependable, organized, patient, and flexible
Pay: From $18.25 per hour
