Essential Duties & Responsibilities For Controller
- Lead and manage all accounting operations, including GL, AP, financial reporting, and compliance
- Direct, mentor, and oversee the accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely completion of financial tasks
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with detailed variance and performance analysis
- Manage internal and external audit processes; ensure compliance with GAAP and corporate policies
- Collaborate with corporate accounting partners (Clayton Accounting) to resolve questions and streamline reporting
- Maintain vendor and trade partner compliance procedures
- Oversee cash flow planning, forecasting, and liquidity management
- Develop, implement, and monitor financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Approve weekly disbursements and lead continuous improvement of AP processes
- Support company-wide risk management efforts, including insurance renewals (property, casualty, builders' risk, health)
- Drive accountability, team culture, and process ownership within the department
- Coordinate with leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic growth initiatives
Qualifications of Controller:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience
- 5 years in a leadership role (Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager)
- CPA designation with public accounting audit experience
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
- Strong leadership, time management, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively across departments and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in residential homebuilding or real estate development
- Familiarity with homebuilding job cost systems and processes
- Experience working with multiple office locations or regional teams
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
- Regular, punctual in-person attendance required
- Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly in person and via phone/video
