Creative Dining Services at Davenport University (Grand Rapids, MI) is looking for a Deli Associate. The Deli Associate works within the Dining Services Department to ensure that high-quality, properly seasoned, nutritious food is being provided throughout the operation, in a safe manner. Works cooperatively as a valued member of the dining services team, assisting with any aspect of the dining services program necessary.

Core Responsibilities:

• Prepare food such that all food is ready for use within the established timeframe.
• Prepares food items according to established recipes and menus in a manner in which preserves food freshness, quality and appeal.
• Utilizes safe food handling techniques at all times.
• Stores food items according to established standards of practice; utilize proper labeling and dating.
• Holds prepared food items at appropriate temperatures (below 40° if cold, above 135° if hot).
• Maintains production records (food usage, overages, shortages, customer counts, etc.) .
• Maintains established logs (food temperatures, cooling temperatures, cooler & freezer temperatures, etc.).
• Maintains a clean and sanitized work area.
• Maintains a safe, tidy and well organized work environment at all times; cleans up spills quickly, wears protective gear as needed (i.e. slicer glove), and stores wares safely.
• Communicates needs and concerns regarding food production and kitchen operation to supervisor appropriately, and in a timely manner.
• Monitors kitchen equipment for proper functioning; report any discrepancies to supervisor immediately.
• Supports other kitchen employees in assuring that the essential functions of the kitchen are performed adequately and appropriately.
• Assists in ordering and inventory procedures.
• Removes refuse as needed.
• Puts away/Pulls stock as needed.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred
• Minimum of 1 year food service experience preferred
