Position: Afterschool Program Instructor (K–8)
Role Overview:
Under the direction of the Director of Afterschool & Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (DA-ELOP), the Afterschool Program Instructor supports students throughout both the school day and afterschool program. This role helps facilitate enrichment activities, homework support, recreation, snack distribution, behavior support, and supervision for students enrolled in our expanded learning program. Instructors also partner with the school-day program by providing recess and lunch supervision, classroom push-in support, and other student supervision as needed. Working collaboratively with the Director and fellow instructors, this role also plans and facilitates engaging enrichment experiences through an arts-integrated, student-centered lens. This position requires enthusiasm, flexibility, creativity, and a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment where all students can thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and facilitate engaging enrichment lessons and activities through an arts-integrated, project-based lens that foster creativity, curiosity, and student voice.
- Collaborate with the Director of Afterschool & Expanded Learning Opportunities Program and fellow instructors to plan and facilitate engaging enrichment activities.
- Build positive relationships with students while fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
- Provide homework assistance, academic support, recreation, and enrichment during afterschool programming.
- Supervise students during recess, lunch, transitions, and other designated school-day activities.
- Provide classroom push-in support for teachers, students, and school programs as assigned.
- Follow CACS behavior expectations while utilizing restorative and relationship-centered approaches to support student success.
- Help create a positive afterschool culture that reflects our values of creativity, equity, belonging, and joy.
- Communicate professionally with students, families, teachers, and staff.
- Assist with school-wide events, field trips, and other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to engage and support students in grades TK–8.
- Ability to plan engaging, developmentally appropriate enrichment activities for diverse learners.

Qualifications:
- Experience working with children or youth in a school, afterschool, camp, or community-based program preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (training provided if needed).
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to perform active supervision throughout the school day, including standing, walking, and engaging with students indoors and outdoors.
- Knowledge of restorative practices and/or Responsive Classroom is preferred but not required.
- Bilingual (especially Spanish) is a plus.
Schedule:
- Full-time position with hours generally between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., depending on program needs.
- Schedule includes afterschool programming as well as school-day support, including recess, lunch supervision, classroom push-in support, and other student supervision as assigned.
Compensation:
- Hourly Rate: $24.84 – $38.01 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
