Behavioral Health Lead – Job Description
Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Lead is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality behavioral health services, ensuring clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and effective team leadership. This role provides supervision to clinical staff, supports program development, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Provide oversight and guidance for behavioral health services, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning
- Ensure evidence-based practices are implemented across all services
- Review and monitor clinical documentation for quality, accuracy, and compliance
- Support crisis intervention and risk management as needed
Team Supervision & Development
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate behavioral health staff (therapists, counselors, case managers)
- Facilitate regular team meetings, case consultations, and clinical supervision sessions
- Identify training needs and coordinate professional development opportunities
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive team environment
Program Management
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of behavioral health programs
- Monitor program performance metrics and outcomes
- Ensure services meet organizational goals and community needs
- Support quality improvement initiatives
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational policies
- Maintain accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CARF if applicable)
- Conduct audits and implement corrective actions when necessary
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with medical providers, social services, and external partners
- Serve as a liaison between behavioral health staff and leadership
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning
Administrative Duties
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, and workload management
- Contribute to budgeting and resource allocation
- Prepare reports and documentation as required
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- AA degree or higher in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field
- Active, unrestricted licensure (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or equivalent)
Experience
- 3–5 years of clinical experience in behavioral health
- 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred

- Knowledge of evidence-based behavioral health practices

- Ability to manage crises and make sound clinical decisions
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
Work Environment
