About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Estate Planning Attorney with at least 5 years of relevant experience to join our firm's Lake Norman office. This is a client-facing role ideal for someone who is personable, detail-oriented, and enjoys working closely with both clients and colleagues. The ideal candidate will also have a strong background in estate, gift, and GST tax planning and a desire to mentor junior attorneys and contribute to firm growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft and review estate planning documents, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, for accuracy, completeness, and clarity
- Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop and implement advanced estate, gift, and GST tax strategies, including SLATs, sales to IDGTs, and charitable remainder trusts
- Conduct client meetings to advise clients regarding the preparation of general estate planning documents, explain draft documents and finalize plans
- Work in partnership with paralegals and administrative staff to manage workflow efficiently
- Stay up to date on legal and tax changes that impact estate planning and administration
What We’re Looking For
- Admitted to the NC bar and in good standing
- 5 years of estate planning experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills; able to connect with clients in a compassionate, clear, and confident manner
- Exceptional attention to detail in both drafting and review work
- Desire to work in a collaborative environment
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple matters efficiently
Nice-to-Haves (Not Required)
- Experience with trust administration or probate
- Knowledge of estate, gift and GST tax laws and familiarity with advanced planning techniques
- LL.M. in Taxation
