                                                                 Testing & Commissioning Specialist

 

Testing & Commissioning Specialist (TCS) are responsible for overseeing the testing and commissioning process and schedule of Beta’s 3rd party testers.  The TCS is also responsible for reviewing test reports for accuracy, totality, and accordance with NETA and customer standards.  The TCS is expected to coordinate with customer representatives, EE’s and PM’s to ensure designs meet appropriate specifications and requirements while supporting the overall project schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interprets new and existing one-lines, panel elevations, AC\DC\Communication schematics, relay panel wiring diagrams, equipment wiring diagrams, cable schedules, lighting plans, general arrangements, conduit drawings, grounding drawings, control building drawings and transmission/distribution drawings and equipment manufacturing prints
  • Interprets battery sizing calculations, AC load calculations, lighting and grounding calculations
  • Interprets project material list and makes recommendations for additional material as needed
  • Reviews test reports, relay settings, coordination studies, load flow studies, underground cable ampacity studies and any other studies/reports pertinent to the commissioning of a substation
  • Coordinates daily with 3rd party testers to ensure they are on schedule and performing their duties in accordance with the agreed scope of work
  • Requires 3rd party testers to provide overall testing schedule, 3 week look aheads, raw test reports as completed, 2 sets of field red line prints, final testing binder containing final copies of all testing results & documentation, and final AS LEFT relay settings
  • Creates testing plans as required
  • Helps EE’s create project testing RFQ’s
  • Helps create a list of preferred and approved testing subcontractors
  • Answers technical questions posed by construction managers, field staff, project managers, engineers, customers, and their representatives
  • Travels periodically as a Beta representative to both job sites for testing/commissioning and manufacturing facilities for witness testing
  • Manages day-to-day activities of schedule of projects assigned to them
  • Coordinates and problem solves between design teams and the field
  • Assist team leaders in training EE’s in on review of test reports
  • Demonstrates integrity and ethics in all client relationships and communications
  • Recognizes and recommends methods to improve every customer’s experience

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Testing & Commissioning Specialist will have zero employees reporting to this position

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • As assigned by the Vice President of Engineering or designated Team Leader

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Performs quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
  • Interacts professionally with other employees and customers
  • Works effectively as a team contributor on all assigned projects
  • Communicates regularly with supervisor regarding testing schedules and concerns
  • Desire to participate in continued education and training
  • Overnight travel to active job sites
  • Must have clean driving record as use of company vehicles is a requirement of position
  • Adhere to and practice the Beta core competencies and Beta principle
  • Maintains check print set of all work they perform

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering is preferred
  • Strong background in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required; strong verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Knowledge of all or some of the following applications are required: AutoCAD & AcSELerator Quickset & other microprocessor relay programs
  • Must have ability to input and sanity check relay settings generated from studies
  • Must have in depth knowledge of the NETA testing specification
  • Must have in depth knowledge of the NEC

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Overnight travel is required to an active construction site for weeks at a time. Ability to perform duties safely and to adhere to each job site’s safety requirements; while working on an active job site, outdoors, is a requirement.
