CRB Geological & Environmental Services is seeking an Environmental Field Technician to support Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), groundwater investigations, soil sampling, drilling operations, and environmental monitoring projects throughout South Carolina.

This is a hands-on field position where no two days are the same. You'll work alongside experienced environmental scientists, geologists, and project managers while gaining valuable experience on commercial, industrial, municipal, and redevelopment projects.

What You'll Be Doing

As an Environmental Field Technician, you'll play a critical role in collecting the field data that supports environmental investigations and remediation projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform groundwater sampling using low-flow and conventional sampling techniques.
  • Collect soil, groundwater, sediment, and surface water samples in accordance with approved sampling procedures.
  • Assist with Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and other environmental investigations.
  • Support drilling operations including direct push (Geoprobe) and hollow stem auger drilling.
  • Oversee soil borings and document subsurface conditions.
  • Assist with the installation, development, maintenance, and abandonment of groundwater monitoring wells.
  • Measure groundwater elevations and perform well gauging.
  • Calibrate and operate environmental monitoring equipment including multi-parameter water quality meters, PID/FID instruments, GPS equipment, and water level indicators.
  • Properly preserve, label, document, and package environmental samples for shipment to certified analytical laboratories.
  • Complete Chain of Custody (COC) documentation and coordinate laboratory sample deliveries.
  • Maintain detailed field notes, boring logs, photographs, and daily field reports.
  • Upload field data, site photographs, and project documentation for review by Project Managers.
  • Maintain sampling equipment, field vehicles, and environmental monitoring instruments.
  • Follow project Health & Safety Plans and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, drilling subcontractors, laboratories, and project managers while representing CRB in the field.
  • Occasionally assist with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and other environmental consulting projects as needed.

We're looking for someone who enjoys field work, takes pride in producing accurate data, and wants to grow within a respected environmental consulting firm.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, Natural Sciences, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of environmental field experience preferred.
  • Experience performing groundwater sampling and soil sampling independently.
  • Experience supporting Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Experience working around drilling rigs and monitoring well installation.
  • Understanding of environmental sampling protocols and Chain of Custody procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

This is an active field position requiring work in varying weather conditions and outdoor environments.

Candidates must be able to:

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Walk long distances across uneven terrain.
  • Bend, kneel, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Travel throughout South Carolina as project schedules require.
  • Occasionally work extended hours to meet project deadlines.

Pay: $26.00 - $32.00 per hour
