After-School Instructor - Crayola® Imagine Arts Academy

Crayola Imagine Arts Academy
Waterford, MI Part Time
POSTED ON 8/3/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 12/1/2026

Do you miss working with kids, but not the lesson planning, grading, and full-time classroom responsibilities?

Crayola® Imagine Arts Academy of SE Michigan is hiring instructors beginning in fall 2026 to lead hands-on creativity programs for elementary-age children at local schools.

We expect to have openings in Waterford, White Lake, West Bloomfield, Walled Lake, Royal Oak, Southfield, Birmingham, and the Utica Community Schools area. We assign instructors based on where they live whenever possible, so they are not expected to travel to every area listed.

These are structured programs, but they should not feel like another hour of school. We want children to have fun, try new things, and feel proud of what they create.

We provide complete lesson plans and all program materials. Artistic experience is not required.

Most classes have 10-12 children. Instructors lead classes independently with up to 15 children. When enrollment is higher than 15, we add an assistant.

Schedule and pay

  • $18-$25 per hour, based on experience
  • Paid training at your regular hourly rate
  • Teach one class per day, three to five weekdays per week
  • School schedules vary, so instructors must be available as early as 2:30 PM and until 5:30 PM on at least three weekdays
  • A typical weekday shift is two paid hours: 30 minutes for lesson review and setup, a 60-minute class, and 30 minutes for cleanup
  • Approximately 5-15 hours per week, depending on availability and assigned programs
  • Programs run in multi-week sessions at the same school, day, and time
  • Optional weekend birthday party and community event work may also be available

Training will take place in late August or early September 2026. School programs begin in mid-to-late September, depending on the school.

What you’ll do

  • Review the provided lesson and set up materials before students arrive
  • Guide children through fun, hands-on creativity projects from start to finish
  • Create a welcoming environment while setting clear expectations and managing classroom behavior
  • Help children participate, try new things, and feel proud of their work
  • Clean the classroom and organize materials after each program

What we’re looking for

  • Prior experience working with elementary-age children
  • Strong classroom management and a warm, encouraging style
  • Ability to carefully review and follow provided lesson plans
  • Dependability and clear, timely communication with our office and school contacts
  • Ability to commit to the full 2026-27 school year, with opportunities to continue beyond the school year
  • At least 18 years old
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and the ability to lift and transport program materials weighing up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check required for working in schools

This position may be a great fit for

  • Teachers taking time away from a full-time classroom
  • Retired teachers who want to continue working with children
  • Substitute teachers and paraprofessionals
  • College students studying education, child development, theater, or a related field
