About The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Heavy Truck Repair Shop Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operations of a heavy-duty truck and trailer maintenance facility.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for fleet uptime, preventative maintenance, shop productivity, repair quality, safety, and DOT/FMCSA compliance. You'll lead a small team of mechanics while remaining technically involved in diagnostics and complex repairs.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience with Class 7 and Class 8 commercial vehicles and knows how to run an organized, safe, and productive maintenance operation.

What You'll Do Shop & Team Leadership

• Supervise, coach, and develop 3–4 heavy-duty mechanics and shop helpers
• Assign daily work and prioritize repairs based on operational needs
• Monitor technician productivity, repair quality, and shop performance
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused shop environment
• Promote accountability, teamwork, quality, and continuous improvement
  
  

Fleet Maintenance & Repairs

• Manage preventative maintenance schedules to maximize equipment reliability and uptime
• Diagnose and assist with complex diesel, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic repairs
• Maintain Class 7 and Class 8 trucks, trailers, propane bobtails, transport trucks, service vehicles, and related equipment
• Perform quality-control inspections on completed repairs
• Coordinate with Operations and Dispatch to schedule maintenance while minimizing downtime
• Support emergency and after-hours breakdown repairs when necessary
  
  

Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure repairs and inspections meet DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and applicable industry requirements
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and repair documentation
• Perform or oversee DOT annual inspections and tire inspections
• Support required tanker inspections and related compliance activities
• Maintain accurate records within CMMS or computerized maintenance systems
  
  

Parts, Vendors & Customer Service

• Coordinate parts purchasing, inventory, and vendor relationships
• Manage third-party repair work and service scheduling
• Provide repair and maintenance services for outside customers
• Oversee truck and tank wash operations
  
  

What You'll Bring

• 7 years of heavy-duty diesel, commercial vehicle, or fleet maintenance experience
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience managing mechanics or shop personnel
• Hands-on experience with Class 7 and Class 8 commercial vehicles
• Strong knowledge of:
• Diesel engines and transmissions
• Air brake and suspension systems
• Hydraulics and pneumatics
• Electrical systems and diagnostics
• Preventative maintenance programs
• Knowledge of DOT inspections, FMCSA regulations, and OSHA requirements
• Ability to diagnose complex equipment problems and develop effective repair plans
• Experience with CMMS or computerized maintenance/repair systems
• Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills
• Valid driver's license required
• High school diploma required; diesel or heavy-equipment technical training preferred
  
  

Preferred Experience

• Propane, petroleum, fuel distribution, or over-the-road trucking experience
• Experience servicing propane delivery trucks, bobtails, and transport equipment
• CDL or ability to obtain
• ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications
• Welding and fabrication experience
• Third-party commercial repair experience
• Annual and 5-year tanker inspection experience
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work underneath commercial vehicles
• Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
• Ability to safely operate shop equipment, diagnostic tools, and hand tools
