Job Summary:
We are a small and busy, patient-centered optometric private practice who is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate would be certified or have experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or in the eye care field. The Ophthalmic Technician will perform patient workups, manage patient flow, and support the daily operations to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations. This is a full-time position.
Duties:
· The primary role is to work directly with patients to perform the optometric workup, assist the doctor, and manage the patient flow
· Take a medical history including chief complaint, comprehensive history of present illness, review and update ocular, medical, family, and social history, and medications and allergies
· Perform an optometric workup, which may include pre-testing (non-contact tonometry, auto-refractor, field screening test, and retinal photos), color vision testing, stereopsis testing, measurement of visual acuity, instilling dilating drops, obtain further testing using an OCT and/or Clarus camera
· Evaluate contact lenses and perform contact lens training
· Gather data and measurements and record into the chart
· Assist doctor with minor procedures and obtaining additional testing when needed
· Inventory management of ophthalmic drops and contact lenses
· File and maintain records, documents, and reports
· Answer phone calls, communicate with other doctors’ offices, and schedule appointments
· Triage patients
· Perform general office duties such as ordering supplies, organizing files, and maintaining office cleanliness
Experience:
· Previous ophthalmic technician or eye care experience is preferred
· Familiarity with medical office equipment
· Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, and have excellent communication skills
· Attention to detail and accuracy in work
· Ability to work both independently and part of a team
· Be self-motivated and willing to learn
· Provide excellent phone etiquette, customer service, professionalism, and abide by the HIPAA Privacy Rule
