Position Description:
This is a position in the treatment and rehabilitation of clients of the center with behavioral health disorders. The Mental Health Technician I is responsible for the delivery of services necessary to assist clients in daily living on a treatment unit or in a residential program. This position is also responsible for answering telephone calls, taking messages for staff, greeting and assisting clients and members of the public in communication with agency staff. The Mental Health Technician I assist in maintaining medical records, conducts general word processing, copying, filing and general clerical duties. A person in this position oversees the daily flow of chores, facilitates groups, passes medications, and oversees client activities. Work is performed alongside an MHT II or higher for all training purposes.

Credential And Experience Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Pass TB Screen Test
- Pass pre-employment background checks, and State of Kansas Adult/Child
- Knowledge of Alcohol and Drug and/or Mental Illness preferred.
- Obtain Certification for Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training. MOAB is an in-depth training program that teaches individuals how to recognize, reduce, and manage violent and aggressive behavior. Training provided.
- MOAB training requires controlled movements, body positioning, and the ability to perform physical holds and restraint techniques.
- The focus of MOAB training is to use techniques that can be effectively applied by employees of varying physical capabilities while minimizing potential harm to both the individual being restrained and the trained themselves.
- First Aid CPR Certification.
- Required to follow dress code policies of any alternative work locations, including but not limited to schools, jails, courts, detention centers, other community partners, etc.
- Develop effective communication in written and spoken English language.
- Learn to operate all general office equipment.
- Gain proficiency in using a personal computer-based word processor.
- Acquire the ability to function competently as a receptionist.
- Understand and perform filing electronic records duties.
- Learn how to thoroughly understand confidentiality regulations.
- Learn how to file, maintain client records and general office duties
- Learn how to monitor weekend passes and curfew for individuals in the reintegration level of care.
- Learn how to monitor client behavior and document.
- Learn how to prepare and monitor work crew assignments.
- Learn how to obtain UAs on clients.
- Learn how to resolve conflict among clients.
- Learn how to do routine inspection for maintenance needs
- Learn how to oversee house cleaning assignments
- Learn how to meal preparation supervision and assignments
- Learn how to document the need for supplies and commodities when identified.
- Learn how to monitor building security throughout shifts & address irregularities.
- Learn how to document client interactions.
- Learn how to report appropriately to the chain of command.
- Learn how to facilitate the delivery of services to clients when scheduled.
- Learn how to initiate activities as outlined in the group schedule.
- Learn how to be oriented and competent in overseeing clients for tornado and/or fire drills.
- Learn how to act as on-site liaison for the MHT Supervisor and provide oversight to daily operations
- Learn how to provide on the job training (OJT) for new hire MHT I via behavioral modeling
- Learn how to tend to Client needs
- Attend meetings and supervision as directed by supervisor
- Complete annual trainings
- Complete and maintain proper documentation of time and services within 24 hours
Physical Requirements:
- Be able to get on the floor rise without assistance
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Additional duties as necessary and as assigned by Supervisor.
