ROLE OVERVIEW
The Senior Geotechnical Laboratory Technician plays a key role in delivering accurate, high-quality laboratory data for geotechnical engineering projects. This position leads advanced soil and rock testing, supports laboratory quality systems, and mentors junior technicians while working closely with engineers and project managers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform advanced geotechnical laboratory testing on soils and rock
• Conduct Atterberg Limits, Grain Size, Moisture-Density, Expansion Index, UCS, Direct Shear, and rock strength testing
• Review, verify, and validate test results for accuracy and compliance
• Maintain ASTM, AASHTO, and Caltrans testing standards
• Support lab accreditation, QA/QC, and equipment calibration
• Maintain detailed records, logs, and reports
• Assist with daily lab workflow and scheduling
• Mentor and support junior laboratory staff
• Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant laboratory environment
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
• 5 years experience in a geotechnical or materials testing laboratory
• Strong working knowledge of ASTM / AASHTO / Caltrans standards
• Ability to independently perform advanced laboratory testing
• ACI Aggregate Base / Level I (preferred)
• NICET Level I (Soils/Aggregates) preferred
• Excel proficiency and basic lab software experience
• Ability to lift heavy samples and equipment
• Occasional light field sample collection as needed
