Job Description
Position: Tutor
Reports to: Principal, Assistant Principal
Terms of Employment:
Pay Grade: Hourly
FLSA Status: Exempt
Nature of Work
The employee collaborates with teachers to effectively implement instructional strategies and classroom management and assessment techniques to ensure student achievement.
Collaborates at the school level with the principal and assistant principal(s) to improve student achievement.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Three years’ successful classroom teaching.
Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable):
- Licensed as a teacher in North Carolina
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
- Support and work with principals, teachers, and school improvement teams to gain knowledge of needs and strengths of school.
- Assist children, aged kindergarten through fifth grade in development of reading and math skills.
- Engage in academic activities with select students in one-on-one or small group.
- Utilize assessment information before, during, and after instruction to guide instructional design.
- Assist in analyzing data relative to the impact on activities and student achievement.
- Maintain confidentiality of data and information.
- Support and participate in Professional Learning Communities, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the principal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Employee must be self-motivated, self-directed, collaborative, flexible, and highly organized.
- Knowledge of educational curriculum, state standards, instructional methodology, and technology.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, and classified personnel.
- Ability to work with a variety of staff, programs, and activities.
- Possess a general working knowledge of Title I regulations, goals, and objectives, particularly school-wide programs.
- Understand the growth and development of students in assigned school.
- Experience with closing the achievement gap and raising test scores.
- Understanding of Common Core and Essential Standards.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate required office equipment and inspect work for accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to work standards and instructions.
