Job Description
Position: EC Homebound Teacher – Full Time
Reports to: Director of Accountability and Exceptional Children
Terms of Employment: Ten Month (Traditional Calendar Schedule)
Up to 30 hours per week.
Pay Grade: NC State Salary Schedule (commensurate with experience), plus local supplement
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Nature of Work: The Exceptional Children Program homebound teacher serves the academic needs of students who are unable to attend school due to a medical condition or behaviors that do not allow them to function in the traditional school setting.
The EC Homebound Teacher works in partnership with the assigned teacher, the student and the parent to ensure the educational needs of the student are met.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum three years teaching experience
Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable):
- Valid North Carolina special education teaching certificate
- Valid NC Driver’s license
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
Includes, but not limited to the following:
- Makes initial contact with parent
- Request and deliver assignments from the student’s assigned teacher
- Return completed assignments to the student’s assigned teacher
- Monitor online learning
- Acts as a liaison between home and school
- Meet with each student at least 2 hours per week (depending on caseload)
- Assist student with completion of assignments
- Gives assessments and test to students as directed by classroom teacher
- Maintain records of students and services provided
- Maintains appropriate communication and follow-up with parents, school staff and immediate Supervisor concerning all academic and other issues and concerns to include participation in IEP meetings when appropriate?
- Meets with the assigned student on a regularly scheduled basis and provides instruction in accordance with student’s needs and curricular expectations
- Models enthusiasm for learning and teaching
- Maintains confidentiality
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of facilitating online learning (Canvas, Google Classroom)
