What are the responsibilities and job description for the STARBASE Program Instructor position at Craven Community College?
: The STARBASE Program Instructor delivers hands-on STEM instruction to elementary school students following the Department of Defense (DoD) curriculum guidelines. This position implements and instructs all STARBASE lessons.
NOTE: The STARBASE Program is funded by the Department of Defense. Annual appointments are subject to annual reauthorization of federal funds. Continued appointments are contingent upon the availability of funding.
: - Designs and develops engaging and age-appropriate STEM curriculum in alignment with DoD standards
: Bachelors degree in education or a STEM field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Three (3) years classroom experience in education.
Ability to obtain/maintain base access for MCAS Cherry Point.
Ability to pass security and background checks required by DoDI 1402.05.
Preferred
Masters degree in a STEM field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Experience teaching STEM related subjects to elementary age students.

- Delivers high quality instruction to students, utilizing effective teaching strategies, resources, and technologies to promote student engagement and learning
- Collaborates with other STARBASE instructors, school personnel, parents, military staff, and community partners to enhance the overall educational experience for students
- Participates in STARBASE evaluation activities, collecting data and soliciting feedback to assess the effectiveness of the program
- Facilitates hands-on experiments, activities, and projects that enable students to apply their knowledge, develop problem-solving skills, and foster creativity
- Provides guidance, supervision, and support to students during activities to ensure safety and effective learning outcomes
- Identifies individual student needs and provides differentiated instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities
- Prepares and submits reports as required
- Engages in continuous professional development to stay current with the latest developments, research, and best practices in STARBASE and STEM education
