The Instructor accomplishes this by presenting discipline specific learning outcomes through lecture, demonstration, labs, projects, assignments, appropriate classroom management, etc. and by providing authentic student assessment that documents learning has occurred. This position will be based on the Havelock, NC campus.
The BioWork certificate program will teach the student the foundational skills needed to begin a career as a process technician for a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing company. Process technicians are responsible for the production of chemical and pharmaceutical products.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Associate's degree in Biotechnology from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Experience with classroom and lab instruction.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in the discipline with extensive certifications, experience and/or coursework in BioWork, Pharmaceuticals, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Industrial Technologies, or related science from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Two year's biopharmaceutical manufacturing experience.
College and/or high school teaching experience.
Experience using Blackboard.
Familiarity with BioWork certificate program.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with and maintain positive working relationships with students, peers, supervisors and staff
Working knowledge of MS Office products

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides instruction and performs related activities for the Workforce Development Department
- Plans and participates in the instruction of classes for the program; prepares supplemental materials and tests; maintains accurate records of student attendance and performance
- Follows and delivers the prepared modules, objectives, assignments, grading standards, attendance polices and course syllabus to be distributed at first class meeting; reviews text books; provides the pre-developed instructional materials and aids; proctors and grades tests; manages lab and/or field work and clinical activities, and maintains program standards
- Provides supervisor with objectives and course outlines for each class; begins and ends each class on time; turns in reports, final grades and other forms on time; revises course content and objectives as required; administers student evaluations each term
- Assists in the evaluation of activities and operations of assigned program; ensures that operations meet the goals and objectives of the college and the needs of the student population
- Works with Coordinator and/or Program Director on classroom related issues to include inventory, equipment, purchase orders and daily operational tasks
- The percentage of time spent teaching and handling classroom administration tasks may shift slightly depending on class scheduling during the term
- Supports college functions/cultural activities
- Assists the students with job placement by basic resume writing, applying and interview with confidence for an entry-level process technician job at a North Carolina pharmaceutical or biotechnology company
- Requires flexible hours; days, nights and possibly weekends
- Performs other duties as assigned

- Quality systems such as International Standards Organization (ISO) and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
- Measure length, volume, mass, and pressure using the metric system
- Identify workplace safety hazards
- Understand separation methods including evaporation, distillation, precipitation, crystallization, filtration, liquid extraction and chromatography
- Operate process equipment including an autoclave, incubator, microscope, balance, refractometer, pH meter, conductivity meter, and bioreactor
- Work aseptically to minimize product contamination
- Optimal conditions for growing cells
