The Associate Designer for Crate & Kids Textiles plays a key role in shaping the brand's future vision through product innovation within the Design and Development department. This position involves managing the daily design functions, including creating technical development briefs, overseeing color checking, and coordinating sample development.
This is an on-site position (Monday through Thursday) based out of our Northbrook, IL office with the flexibility to work remotely on Fridays.
A day in the life as an Associate Designer, Crate & Kids Textiles…
- Own and support the product design process for Wall Art, Soft Seating, Seasonal and Soft Accessories under the guidance of the Associate Director
- Create presentations of key cross-functional design milestones
Design original surface patterns and CAD’s for the product lines - Own the development of technical product design specifications and CADs
- Own product amendment comments and revisions through the design development and sampling process
- Maintain seasonal concept documents and design records
Develop set up of category presentations for product and assortment reviews - Partner with sourcing team to maintain swatch libraries
- Manage design samples through their entire lifecycle
- Manage color checking and approvals for textile categories
- Organize and maintain sample storage and review spaces
- Identify and support opportunities for improvement in business management and process design
- Support and model excellent service to internal and external customers in all forms of action and communication
What you’ll bring to the table…
- Ability to paint in various styles to support the team with print and pattern needs
- Passion for design, style and decorating and knowledge of design and art history
- Ability to interact and collaborate with senior members of the team and major vendors with experience on product development
- Ability to translate business and design objectives into successful products
- Experience building effective relationships with internal partners in Design and Merchandising and Sourcing to help execute cross functional synergy and collaboration

- 3 years experience working in Textile home or fashion and manufacturing/retail industry
- AA, BFA or MA in Textile Design or any related design field
- Experience with technical design and design brief creation
- Strong Hand Sketching and concept generation
- Strong knowledge of design and art history
- Strong Technical knowledge and experience with Procreate
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative suite, Photoshop and Illustrator essential
Up to: $90,000.00 Annually
Pay ranges will be adjusted upward as needed to comply with applicable state and local law. In addition to your salary, based on your role, associates may be eligible for other compensation including bonuses, sales incentives, and long term incentives.
