What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Cranemasters?
Basic Function:
Responsible for leading and managing the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of financial reports, maintenance of accounting systems, and comprehensive controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. This position works from home two days per week.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive strategic initiatives, execute business plans, and maintain a big-picture perspective.
- Lead financial integrity and foster collaboration in managing Cranemasters’ accounting systems and processes.
- Oversee all accounting and financial functions: A/P, A/R, payroll, reporting, billing, taxes, P&L, asset management, collections, budgeting, etc.
- Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting; manage cash flow, forecasting, and provide short- and long-term financial analyses.
- Maintain supported accounting systems and records; implement and monitor key financial and operational controls for compliance.
- Develop and enforce internal processes, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Monitor cash flow and P&L performance; review bank accounts daily.
- Provide leadership for financial and project accounting aligned with operational and strategic goals.
- Review monthly reconciliations, resolve discrepancies, and oversee balance sheet, revenue estimates, expenses, and allocations.
- Manage monthly and year-end closings; ensure deadlines are met.
- Participate in audits; oversee tax compliance and licensing.
- Coordinate submission of financial data to external accounting firm for annual review.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting and/or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years related work experience, construction or rail industry preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP.
- Superior ability to handle complex account reconciliations, budgets, reports, etc.
- Highly proficient computer skills with ability to learn and use specialty software including Timberline and ViewPoint.
Physical Demands:
- Primarily desk work with occasional walking, standing, and meeting with employees
- Travel to various divisions and attend meetings as needed
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs (files, computers, etc.)
- Occasional bending required
