What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Cranemasters?
Responsible for assisting with company accounting operations, including financial reporting, system maintenance, and controls to mitigate risk, ensure accuracy, and maintain GAAP compliance. All activities must be performed safely and efficiently to protect employees and company assets. This position works from home 2 days per week.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting; manage cash flow, forecasting, and short/long-term analyses.
- Maintain accounting systems and records; implement and monitor key financial and operational controls for compliance.
- Develop and enforce internal processes, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency.
- Monitor and report on cash flow and P&L performance.
- Review monthly G/L reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Oversee balance sheet, revenue estimates, and expense management.
- Manage monthly accruals, fixed assets, and allocation of accounts and expenses.
- Ensure accurate monthly and year-end closings within deadlines.
- Participate in audits; oversee tax compliance and licensing.
- Coordinate submission of financial data to external accounting firm for annual review.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Accounting (5–7 years experience; construction/rail preferred).
- Strong GAAP knowledge.
- Expertise in reconciliations, budgets, and reporting.
- Proficient in Timberline, ViewPoint, and related software.
- Highly organized, proactive problem-solver with strong ownership.
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Fluent in English; must pass required safety and qualification tests.
Physical Demands:
- Primarily desk work with occasional walking, standing, meetings, and travel.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and bend as needed.
- Ability to perform under pressure.
