Position Overview
The Senior Accountant partners closely with the Controller to support and help oversee the company’s accounting operations across multiple locations.
This role carries a high level of ownership and accountability, balancing day-to-day accounting execution with process improvement, reporting, and cross-functional support.
Key Responsibilities
- Support financial reporting, planning, and budgeting processes
- Maintain accuracy and integrity of operational and financial data
- Assist in developing and documenting internal controls, procedures, and policies
- Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries and reconciliations
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial analyses
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations
- Analyze cost variances and resolve discrepancies
- Act as a liaison with external auditors
Daily / Ongoing Functions
- Run and reconcile prior-day bank reports
- Post daily bank activity in Great Plains (Microsoft Dynamics)
- Prepare daily revenue and cash reports
- Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations
- Record month-end journal entries
- Maintain fixed assets
- Process wire transfers and monitor operating accounts
- Review AP coding as needed
- Review expense accounts prior to financial issuance
- Assist with payroll coverage when needed
- Support system troubleshooting with TMW / Great Plains
Team & Leadership Support
- Assist team members and cross-functional partners as needed
- Provide backup support for the Controller
- Participate in special projects and process improvements
Qualifications
- 4 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles
- Experience with:
- General ledger
- Month-end close
- Reconciliations
- Financial reporting
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
Preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics / Great Plains
- Exposure to payroll, fixed assets, or multi-entity environments
- Experience in transportation, logistics, construction, or similar industries
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (or equivalent experience)
