What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project/Field Engineer position at CR Meyer?
The Project Engineer contributes to the overall success of CR Meyer and its heavy industrial customers by performing engineering/design responsibilities for various large scale construction projects. Assists the entire construction project team across all disciplines utilized, providing technical assistance needed to complete various aspects of construction projects.
- Provides engineering and design services, producing sketches and drawings as required to provide conceptual design to clients, provide design details and provide fabrication and installation details.
- Provides input into the ‘means and methods’ engineering requirements needed for the project (i.e. special picking beams, floor loading considerations etc.).
- Assists customers in determining the most practical and cost-effective option for their projects.
- Performs engineering calculations, based on engineering education, experience, and certifications.
- Assists with inspections of existing facilities, documenting existing structural conditions of the facility, and providing repair details as required to restore structural integrity of the facility.
- Assists with developing and maintaining a positive and collaborative relationship with the engineering/architect team assigned to the project and assists with the proper flow of communication/documents between all parties.
- Assists the project team in development of estimate/bid, establishing and executing the project plan and/or schedule, managing the overall budget, reviewing and timely invoicing, timely and accurate reporting, participating in close-out and punch-list meetings, etc.
- Determines material requirements for projects and assists in procuring the materials.
- Takes an active role in the implementation of the CR Meyer Risk Control Plan for the project and is proactive and enthusiastic about safety every day.
- Shares in the responsibility for maintaining a safe job site working with the customer, on-site staff, Safety Coordinator and the whole project team.
- Assists in other areas of overall project management, including but not limited to: subcontractor selection and management, tool selection and control, estimating/budgeting, scheduling, invoicing, change orders, documentation and reports, etc.
- At project completion, participates in project close-out meetings as needed.
- Properly documents completed projects to use as a reference in the future.
- Assists with any QA/QC requirements expected by customer.
- Wears all assigned PPE and observes CR Meyer safety guidelines at all times.
- Due to project deadlines and demands, regular and reliable attendance is required.
- Completes all related paperwork in a timely manner.
- Represents the CR Meyer brand in a positive, professional manner at all times.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with a focus on structural engineering required.
- Previous structural design experience required with experience heavy industrial projects preferred.
- EIT certification required, PE preferred.
- AutoCAD experience required.
- Familiarity with ASCE and IBC (2012 and newer) Building Codes.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products and ability to learn and utilize ViewPoint software.
- Ability to complete all CR Meyer training and perform job duties within safety guidelines including, but not limited to, First/Aid-CPR Certification, OSHA 30 and SafeStart.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and comply with CR Meyer’s Drug & Alcohol Policy and Program.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, insurable driving history and ability to operate a motor vehicle following all traffic laws and safe, courteous driving habits.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
