About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Commissioning Engineer to support the Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) program at Kennedy Space Center. In this role, you’ll work on both design and commissioning phases—supporting instrumentation testing, coordinating joint testing from a temporary control room, and ensuring all test activities meet NASA design verification requirements.
This position will require strong technical expertise, the ability to manage commissioning activities independently, and excellent collaboration with NASA, engineering teams, construction staff, and subcontractors.
What You’ll Do
Design Phase Responsibilities
- Develop commissioning plans, test procedures, test matrices, and PLC configurations (Allen Bradley).
- Prepare Advanced Work Packages (AWPs), Instrument Test Records (ITRs), and test documentation.
- Support design reviews, vendor documentation reviews, and interface meetings.
- Assist with spare parts planning, requisition development, and procurement coordination.
- Create test work packages, calibration requirements, and inspection records.
- Conduct subsystem walkdowns, punch list closeouts, and hazard assessments.
Commissioning Phase Responsibilities
- Perform ML2 instrument testing, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Coordinate with NASA, engineering, construction, and suppliers to complete all testing.
- Prepare and review test documentation, records, and procedures.
- Supervise craft labor as needed and monitor performance against schedule and budget.
- Lead system turnover walkdowns and resolve punch list items.
- Work closely with customer operations and maintenance personnel.
- Utilize Microsoft Office and standard project applications for tracking and documentation.
- Work overtime, shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet project demands (per NASA policy).
- Assignment expected to last ~1.5 years.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or related) and 8–10 years of relevant experience, or 12–14 years of related industry/military experience with at least 9 years focused on testing and commissioning.
- 5–7 years of experience in testing, calibrations, and commissioning of field instrumentation.
- 5 years of experience supervising craft workers during commissioning.
- Ability to obtain a NASA badge for access to Kennedy Space Center.
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, commissioning practices, and safety standards (LOTO, NFPA-70E).
- Experience with instrument installation, calibration, and functional testing.
- Familiarity with PLC configuration (Rockwell RSLogics 5000 preferred).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Previous NASA or aerospace commissioning experience a plus.
Additional Requirements
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check (including education/employment verification).
- Must be able to work on-site at Kennedy Space Center (no remote work).
