Category Manager - Pharma Chemicals & CDMO

Location: Ellicott, MD - Hybrid | Travel: Up to 20% | Department: Global Procurement

We’re seeking a Category Manager to lead sourcing initiatives for pharmaceutical raw materials, intermediates, APIs, and CDMO services. This role ensures the right suppliers are selected, costs are optimized, and global regulatory standards are met. You will collaborate across R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and execute sourcing strategies for pharma chemicals and CDMO services
• Lead supplier identification, qualification, negotiation, and performance management
• Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and supply risks
• Negotiate MSAs, supply, and quality agreements
• Drive cost savings, value creation, and supplier innovation
• Ensure compliance with GMP, FDA, EMA, and other regulations
• Track KPIs on cost savings, supplier performance, and risk
  
  

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field (MBA/MS/PhD preferred)
• 5-8 years in pharma strategic sourcing or category management
• Proven experience with APIs, intermediates, excipients, and CDMO partnerships
• Knowledge of global supply chains (India, China, Europe)
• Strong regulatory understanding (GMP, FDA/EMA, ICH)
• Excellent negotiation, contract management, and financial analysis skills
• Proficiency with sourcing/ERP tools (SAP, Ariba, Salesforce, etc.)
• Fluency in English; additional languages a plus
