CPS HR Consulting (Client Recruitments)
Walsenburg, CO Full Time
POSTED ON 8/14/2026

When Every Second Matters, You Can Make the Difference.

As a Dispatcher Communications Officer with Huerfano County, you'll be the calm voice guiding callers through their worst moments, the critical link connecting law enforcement, firefighters, EMS, and other emergency responders, and the person who helps save lives before first responders even arrive.

Whether you're beginning your career or looking for meaningful work with exceptional stability, Huerfano County offers a paid apprenticeship, comprehensive training, outstanding benefits, and the opportunity to build a rewarding career serving your community. Our dispatchers answer emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinate emergency response resources, provide life-saving Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) instructions, maintain communication with first responders in the field, and ensure responders have the information they need to safely protect our communities.

The County is currently filling multiple vacancies and establishing an eligibility list for future Dispatcher Communications Officer I and II openings. This Apprenticeship Program is in the process of becoming a Registered Apprenticeship with the State of Colorado.

Compensation highlights:
    • Starting pay is approximately $42,500 annually during the apprenticeship program
    • Merit increase after successful completion of the first year within the Salary range of $42,500-45,000
