Assistant Finance Director

The City of Terrell, is seeking a highly capable Assistant Director of Finance to support the continued strengthening and modernization of its financial operations. With new leadership and a renewed commitment to strong governance, the City is deliberately building a Finance Department grounded in consistency, accountability, and long-term sustainability. 

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, this position serves as the operational anchor of the department. The Assistant Director plays a central, hands-on role in day-to-day financial operations while partnering closely with leadership to implement improved systems, reinforce internal controls, and ensure reliable financial reporting. The role is structured to provide meaningful exposure to executive-level responsibilities and is well suited for a professional seeking continued growth toward a Finance Director position. 

Key responsibilities include: 

• Direct oversight of daily accounting operations, reconciliations, and financial close 
• Leadership of utility billing operations and implementation of a new billing system 

• Support of audit preparation, ACFR development, and GAAP/GASB compliance 

• Strengthening internal controls, processes, and departmental consistency 

• Serving as Acting Finance Director as needed 

The City is seeking a hands-on accounting leader with a strong foundation in governmental or closely related finance who is comfortable operating in both the details and a leadership capacity.
