Directly supports the CPS Energy Casa Verde program funded by the Sustainable Tomorrow Energy Plan (STEP). The Weatherization Auditor/Inspector conducts comprehensive and precise residential home energy assessments in accordance with utility and/or Government standards. Educates residents on how to make their homes safer and more energy-efficient. Inspects and assesses homes for eligibility; evaluates HVAC equipment; prepares work orders for contractors; inspects work performed by contractors for quality and quantity; ensuring energy efficiency measures and installations meet program specifications. Leads development and delivery of quality technical training and support materials for weatherization contractors.
- Performs comprehensive quality assurance inspections on residential homes, conducting: blower door testing, duct testing, health and safety testing as well as other measurements. Record, process and maintain detailed records of the work.
- Recommends and prioritizes energy improvements based on cost-effectiveness and return on the investment (ROI).
- Tests and diagnoses air flow systems, using furnace efficiency analysis equipment.
- Inspects insulation materials such as loose, blanket, board, and foam insulation to attics, crawl spaces, basements, or walls.
- Inspects the scaling of air ducts, combustion air openings, or ventilation openings to improve heating and cooling efficiency.
- Inspects the installation of storm windows or storm doors and verify proper fit.
- Inspects the installed weather-stripping, glazing, caulking, or door sweeps to reduce energy losses.
- Inspects the applied spackling, compounding or other materials used to repair holes in walls.
- Able to make minor repairs using basic hand or power tools and materials, such as glass, lumber, and drywall.
- Perform regular customer visits collecting field data, including air leakage, duct leakage, attic and zonal pressure diagnostics, load calculations, heating, and cooling system requirements, and calculate estimated list of needed construction materials.
- Communicate with customer to ensure understanding of work performed, scope of the program, energy conservation measures and overall benefits of the work. To include: recommended weatherization techniques in accordance with needs and applicable energy regulations, codes, policies, or statutes.
- Use diagnostic testing equipment to evaluate gas combustion appliances and pressure diagnostics.
- Use computer and software programs to estimate energy savings upgrades and create work orders for crews to install the recommended measures.
- Identify any health or safety issues related to planned weatherization projects to increase the health and safety of customer homes.
- Analyze project data files to manage client home work order time effectiveness and work order budgets. Identify project constraints and any residential projects not meeting program ROI requirements.
- Prepares or assist in the preparation of written reports related to weatherization work.
- Provide technical support related to building science expertise and conduct or assist with building science research activities.
- Provide information for review of data and monthly reports.
- Performs post-installation inspections to verify workmanship and the delivery of quality service.
- Directs contractors to correct deficiencies.
- Assist or lead the development and delivery of technical training and support materials.
- Provide training, technical assistance, and support to auditors and contractors participating in programs while nurturing and developing these business relationships.
- Coordinate and deliver building science training and classroom instruction to contractors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Trade School or equivalent experience
- Bachelor's Degree in related construction/building science field
- Intermediate experience in customer service
- Knowledge of Weatherization Audit systems
- Certified HVAC Technician or Certified Electrical and/or Plumbing Journeyman preferred
