Position Summary
The Expeditor Lead role focuses on managing the high volume of new electric and gas construction project requests of varying degrees of complexity throughout the design and delivery project life cycle. In addition to managing the project life cycle, the Expeditor Lead role is focused on design quality and provides input on productivity improvements, process efficiency and data insights pertaining to the overall quality of Customer Design and Delivery work performed. The Expeditor Lead is an important resource for department leadership, providing project performance updates that ensure organizational decision-making and resource planning is statistically supported. This position serves as the internal liaison across teams (internal and external) to facilitate project progression through collaborative networks designed to optimize process efficiencies. The Expeditor Lead is the primary point of contact for customers, maintaining the Customer Design and Delivery’s customer-centric goal of transparency and proactive customer engagement. This position also serves as the knowledge resource for team members and design contractors, ensuring CPS Energy’s (CPSE) quality standards are maintained by external resources. This role reports to the Customer Design and Delivery Supervisors.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Supports the timely and accurate design and delivery of CPSE gas and electric new construction and remodel requests through best practice application of project management and quality assurance.
- Provides proactive feedback on work quality and complex design requests/projects to Designer Assistants, Design Coordinators, Expeditors and design contractors.
- Serves as primary point of contact for questions and concerns regarding assigned design project statuses, corrections, and disruptions for internal stakeholders and external customers.
- Adapts interpersonal approach while working with internal and external customers to moderate project requirements with empathy, respect and support for achieving project goals and responding to job statuses.
- Uses sound decision making skills to maintain project schedules for active, pending, and non-design work, adjusting resources and providing guidance for alternative solutions to achieving project goals.
- Follows a clearly defined traceable method for monitoring and communicating overall project performance.
- Accurately estimates time and resources when communicating project goals, timelines, and milestone achievement to design Supervisors and management via regular updates on overall project efficiency.
- Critically reviews and addresses the cause of project delays to include coordinating across internal and external agencies to remediate design-phase delays, ensuring stakeholder awareness of project statuses through the appropriate use of technology, accurate allocation of time and resources and addresses procedural shortcomings and interdepartmental agreements.
- Ensures all hold tasks are resolve and projects meet all CPS Energy requirements for construction release before routing for Supervisor approval.
- Critically reviews job packets, sketches, work processes, Contributions in Aid of Construction (CIAC) invoicing and job work statuses in work management systems for accuracy, providing feedback and guidance as needed for corrections and to facilitate timely job progression/completion.
- Respects and follows safety policies and regulations; scans the work environment (office/field) for items/issues that may pose a safety risk.
- Encourages others to utilize safe and healthy work practices.
- Performs other project and activities as assigned.
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Depending on business area, preferred knowledge needed in items such as:
- Overhead and underground electric distribution design and construction standards
- Designer/Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Work Management Information System (WMIS), and Customer Information System (SAP)
- Single-phase/three-phase underground electric distribution design and construction standards
- Downtown Network design and construction standards
- Gas design and construction standards
- Electric Service Standards
- Electric and Gas Line Extension Policies
- Relative experience in supporting utility construction & maintenance
- Advanced knowledge of utility-scale distribution planning or utility construction
- Ability to apply a broad knowledge of design and construction standards and requirements to the extent of being considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME)
- Technical expert on Electric Line Extension Policy and Gas Line Extension Policy
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Salary : $52,100 - $66,000
