The Feed Formulation Specialist provides technical formulation and regulatory support for all company feed manufacturing operations and livestock species. This position works closely with the Beef Nutritionist, Sales Team, and Feed Mill Managers to develop accurate feed formulations, maintain regulatory compliance, and support production efficiency across all feed mills. The role is responsible for entering and maintaining feed rations, developing feed tags, assisting with quality control documentation, and helping resolve formulation and production challenges.
This position requires on-site attendance.
Key Responsibilities:
Feed Formulation & Nutrition Support
- Assist the Nutritionist with development, maintenance, and entry of feed formulations for all livestock species.
- Enter and maintain feed rations within the formulation software system.
- Ensure ingredient specifications, nutrient values, and formulation parameters are accurate and up to date.
- Evaluate ingredient substitutions and reformulations based on ingredient availability, cost, and nutrient variability.
- Provide formulation assistance to the Sales Team for customer feeding programs.
- Maintain and update feed formulas based on ingredient changes, availability, or cost optimization.
Regulatory & Compliance Support
- Develop and maintain compliant feed tags and labeling according to federal and state feed regulations.
- Ensure formulations meet regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
- Maintain documentation supporting feed labeling and regulatory compliance.
- Assist with regulatory audits and inspections as needed.
Production & Feed Mill Support
- Work closely with Feed Mill Managers to troubleshoot formulation or ingredient challenges that impact manufacturing.
- Support production teams in addressing batching, mixing, or ingredient compatibility issues.
- Assist with implementation of new formulations at manufacturing facilities.
- Coordinate with procurement and operations when ingredient changes affect formulations.
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Animal Nutrition, Feed Science, or related field required.
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in feed formulation, feed manufacturing, or livestock nutrition required.
- Experience with feed formulation software (such as Brill, Format, BestMix, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- Experience working with multi-species livestock feed programs preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of livestock nutrition across multiple species required.
- Understanding of feed regulatory requirements and labeling standards.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Ability to analyze formulation and production issues.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with technical, sales, and manufacturing teams.
Work Environment:
- Office-based role supporting multiple feed manufacturing facilities.
- Occasional travel to feed mills may be required.
