JOB SUMMARY

The part time Tutor is responsible for supporting students in the achievement of academic success by assisting each student with their individual academic and social needs. This includes establishing a working relationship with school personnel, parents and other agencies, tribal and non-tribal, and other learning center staff members. The Part Time Tutor must demonstrate an above average competency in math, reading, writing and computer skills; Reporting to the Education Director, the part-time Tutor assists with organizing and implementing educational and recreational program activities. Tutors must have great communication skills and be team players. Working early evening hours and some weekends may be required.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Assist students with their homework and all areas of academic studies
  • Work with department staff developing and planning learning and related activities for students
  • Work with department staff evaluating individual student academic and social progress.
  • Coordinate student learning objectives with outside academic and vocational programs
  • Collect student academic data to report to the EDU & VOC ED Manager
  • Participates in staff development programs.
  • Communicate student academic needs to parent(s) or guardian(s)
  • Work with parent(s) to determine how to best help the students succeed academically
  • Assist the Youth Activities Department staff coordinating scheduled nonacademic activities
  • Attend parent committee meetings as scheduled by the department manager
  • Travel as necessary to accomplish job duties.
  • May be asked to perform various duties as assigned by the department manager
  • Must maintain a good attendance record.
  • Help maintain all student files and records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.High School Diploma or GED equivalent, AA Degree preferred.
2. Possess above average math and grammar skills
3. Experience using Microsoft Office
4. Must be able to work closely with the department manager and take directives accurately.
5. Have good interpersonal skills.
6. Have a neat and clean personal appearance.
7. Familiarly and knowledge of the local Indian community, history and culture.
8. Knows basic principles and practices of tutoring in a classroom, in small groups and individually.
9. Have ability to intervene on inappropriate behaviors in an assertive and positive manner.
10. A degree in the health field or business management and 3-5 years relevant experience.
11. Experience with health billing and governmental accounting.
12. Thorough knowledge of HIPPA law.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

1. Ability to concentrate on work in an environment that may be noisy or intense.
2. Can demonstrate effective and diplomatic communication skills, which includes contact with staff, tribal members, students, parents, and other government officials.
3. Must demonstrate experience performing within specific deadlines or under pressure.
4. Must demonstrate the experience, education and training that indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above, or a willingness to receive training towards these abilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS


  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.

REASONING ABILITY


  • Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with the children and other employees.
  • Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Must be able to work in an intense environment where a high degree of concentration is necessary to perform the required job duties.
