What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Coyote Tanks Inc?
If you want to be a number in a stack of numbers, this isn't your job.
If you want your accounting work to actually move a company forward, keep reading.
Coyote Tanks builds critical equipment for the energy and industrial sectors out of the Uintah Basin. Numbers drive decisions here — and the people behind them have a seat at the table.
We're hiring an Assistant Controller to partner with our Controller and run the accounting function day-to-day. Real ownership. Real path to Controller for the right person.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Month-end and year-end close — journal entries, recs, accruals, financial statements
WIP accounting end-to-end — percentage-of-completion, over/under billings, cost-to-complete, WIP-to-GL recs every close
Customer invoicing through OpenInvoice (Enverus/Oildex), Ariba, OpenTicket and similar oil & gas platforms — coding, submission, disputes, chasing payment
Job costing and project profitability — partnering with PMs and ops on change orders and estimates
Clean chart of accounts and the discipline to keep it that way
AP, AR, payroll workflows
Budgeting, forecasting, variance reporting
Step up and run the function when the Controller is out
WHAT YOU BRING
Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance
5 years of full-cycle accounting experience
Hands-on WIP accounting — POC, over/under billings, WIP schedules
Direct experience invoicing oil & gas customers through OpenInvoice, Ariba, or similar — you know the coding, the routing, and how to chase a stuck invoice
QuickBooks (Desktop and/or Online)
Advanced Excel — pivots, lookups, clean models from messy data
Solid grasp of GAAP, especially ASC 606 on long-cycle projects
Oil & gas services, fabrication, or construction background strongly preferred
CPA a plus, not required
WHO YOU ARE
You take ownership. When something's off, you fix it.
You communicate clearly — you can explain a variance to someone who doesn't speak accounting.
You're hungry. This seat has a real path to Controller.
You show up. Vernal isn't downtown SLC — we want people who want to be here.
