Position Details:
The Cox Communications HFC Access Designer II will perform completed GIS mapping and designs for hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) and fiber optic networks utilizing applicable design related software(s). Also responsible for network planning to review bandwidth utilization, powering and node sizing for future forecasting considerations. Work closely with 3rd party contract labor to meet specified SLA timeframes.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review network architectures including HFC, Dark Fiber, FTTx, GPON, RFOG, MetroE, WiFi, Small Cell, etc. to provide cost efficient designs to satisfy customer requirements
- Review design considerations including node sizing, network powering and bandwidth utilization for network planning purposes to determine both short term and long- term requirements.
- Complete assigned system design tasks related to HFC Coax and Fiber based off field site survey drawings using programs GE Smallworld, MapInfo, Google Earth and Lode Data.
- Draft and document in GIS System of aerial and underground plant for assigned tasks
- Responsible for end to end GIS documentation from technical facility fiber termination to customer fiber port location.
- Creates and maintains fiber sizing, fiber naming/allocation and fiber splicing records for outside plant network
- Create redline conduit routing drawings for placement by construction teams
- Produce accurate project deliverables as outlined within internal Cox Standardized Work Package Output Requirements.
- Maintain understanding of changes in project specs, architectures, HFC/Fiber electronics, procedures, policies, etc.
- Update GIS system to reflect post construction as-builts and changes
- Serve as technical liaison for Construction planning, fiber splicing, Access Engineering, Sales Engineering and Project Management teams by providing necessary information as needed.
- Maintain an open line of communication between internal and external teammates, leadership, and internal and external customers (when applicable)
- Quality check completed 3rd party contact labor to ensure efficient HFC coax and fiber design
- Manage incoming project(s)/tasks to ensure on time completion of SLA timeframes
- Communicate effectively to boundary partner and contract labor to meet SLA timeframes
- Attend team and departmental meetings as needed
- Assists with network outage and restoration when required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- HS diploma or relevant work experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (outlook, word, excel, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat
- 2 - 5 years of experience preferred in related field (i.e. Engineering, Design, CAD Drafting, etc.)
- Requires strong knowledge of radio frequency, power design, coax network design, network powering, video fiber design and commercial fiber design.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, relationship building, self-motivation, resourcefulness, self-starter, time management, organization, attention to detail, quality orientation, and collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout the organization.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
- Ability to learn, synthesize, and apply new information on a regular basis
Preferred Qualifications
- BS/AS/AA or Technical Certification in related discipline desired (i.e. Design, Drafting, Electronics, Civil Engineering)
- Prefer certification in GIS technologies or electrical engineering
- Experience in telecommunications industry desired.
