About the Role:

The MDS (Minimum Data Set) Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and comprehensive assessment data collection and reporting within Senior Suites, SS. This position is responsible for coordinating and completing resident assessments in compliance with federal and state regulations, which directly impacts care planning and reimbursement processes. The MDS Specialist collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams to gather clinical information, analyze data, and ensure timely submission of MDS documentation. By maintaining high standards of data integrity and regulatory compliance, the MDS Specialist supports quality care delivery and operational efficiency. Ultimately, this role contributes to optimizing resident outcomes and the financial health of the facility through meticulous data management and communication.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with relevant clinical licensure as required by the state.
  • Demonstrated experience with MDS assessments and knowledge of CMS regulations.
  • Strong understanding of long-term care clinical practices and documentation standards.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and MDS software applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assessments and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as an MDS Coordinator or related credential.
  • Experience working in a senior living or skilled nursing facility environment.
  • Advanced training in geriatric care or long-term care management.
  • Familiarity with quality improvement initiatives and reimbursement methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data reporting and interpretation.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive resident assessments using the MDS tool in accordance with CMS guidelines and facility policies.
  • Collaborate with nursing, therapy, and other clinical staff to collect accurate and complete clinical information for each resident.
  • Prepare, review, and submit MDS documentation within required timeframes to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for care plan improvements.
  • Provide education and support to staff regarding MDS processes, documentation requirements, and regulatory updates.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state regulations related to MDS and long-term care documentation.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and audits to ensure data accuracy and regulatory compliance.
