All Media Journalist

The Dayton Daily News is seeking an all-media journalist to join our fast-paced newsroom in serving digital and print readers.

We're looking for a journalist who can write breaking news, enterprise and watchdog stories for print and digital; shoot video for our online products; and post to social media, including Facebook and other platforms. This role is crucial to building our audience.

You will work in a digital-first newsroom to provide digital videos and digital stories. This reporter will join our platform team of reporters and AMJs in the Dayton newsroom and will cover several local communities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a reporter and writer with a passion for telling great stories, and someone who thrives in a fast-paced work environment.

They Must

• Have excellent reporting and writing skills, and the ability to write and edit quickly.
• Use research to tailor stories to fit the audience and platform
• Have a knack for telling stories in relatable and compelling ways, including digital formats and summaries, photo and video, and longform writing
• Have a demonstrated social media presence that shows the ability to engage with readers, using platforms to connect with the community, share their stories, and find story tips
• Be familiar and comfortable with standards for avoiding libel and slander, and have a good grasp of Ohio's public records laws
• Ability to work in high-energy, fast-paced environment and be committed to learning throughout their careers.
  
  

Education/Experience

• High School Diploma/GED and 5 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline and 3 years' experience; or 7 years' experience in a related field.
• A portfolio of work that shows good work in reporting, writing and some of ability to shoot video and photos and use social media to get and transmit information
• Genuine interest in storytelling of all kinds
• Work is expected to be accurate and complete and according to set deadlines

USD 20.10 - 30.10 per hour

Compensation

Hourly pay rate is in the range of $20.10 - $30.10/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Benefits

Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
