The Covington County Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the positions (2) of General Laborer in the
Countywide Road Department . This is a full-time position.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The General Laborer is responsible for assisting with a variety of maintenance, construction, and operational activities within the
Countywide Road Department. This position supports the maintenance and improvement of county roads, rights-of-way, drainage
systems, signage, and related infrastructure. The employee performs manual labor, operates hand and power tools, assists
equipment operators, and completes assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner. The General Laborer works under the direction
of supervisors and crew leaders and contributes to the overall maintenance and upkeep of county transportation infrastructure and
public property.
Duties:
Perform general labor and maintenance activities for county roads, rights-of-way, and drainage systems.
Assist with road construction, repair, and resurfacing projects.
Install and maintain road signs, markers, and traffic control devices.
Operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment safely and effectively.
Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to job sites.
Assist equipment operators and other crew members with assigned tasks.
Maintain work areas, vehicles, and equipment in a clean and safe condition.
Respond to emergency road maintenance and storm cleanup operations as needed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
Valid Alabama Driver’s License required.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Strong work ethic, dependability, and attendance record.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to pass required drug and alcohol testing in accordance with County policy.
