Summary of Responsibilities:
The Business Personal Property Appraiser performs business personal property discovery, appraisals, and physical inspections to ensure the accurate and lawful valuation of property for tax purposes in Covington County. This position works under the direction of the Revenue Commissioner and plays a vital role in supporting the proper assessment and collection of tax revenue. The position also assists with auditing small to medium-sized businesses to verify compliance and accuracy in reported values. The employee will perform a combination of fieldwork and office-based tasks and will support overall operations of the Mapping and Appraisal Office by completing additional duties as assigned.
Duties:
- Conduct business personal property discovery and appraisals
- Perform physical inspections of businesses and property
- Assist with auditing small to medium-sized businesses
- Ensure accurate and lawful property valuation for tax purposes
- Support tax revenue collection through proper assessments
- Maintain records and documentation related to appraisals and audits
- Work under the direction of the Revenue Commissioner
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Valid Alabama Driver’s License required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Knowledge of spreadsheets and report queries
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to analyze data and perform audits
- Ability to conduct fieldwork and inspections
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Pay Range:
Starting pay will depend on qualifications and experience; salary range is $23.46–$29.42 per hour.
