Maintenance Helper / Janitor

Canterbury Woods, Pacific Grove

This is an on-call position to help with staffing coverage. Shift may be in the morning or afternoon and can be 2 hours up to 8 hours per day, depending on service needs. Preference for someone who can work on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Summary:
Under the direction of the Housekeeping Supervisor or Lead, keeps premises of the facility, apartment houses, residential homes and other buildings on company grounds in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

· Follows cleaning schedule and completes all items on daily log.

· Dusts, mops, and wet mops floors

· Cleans patient rooms, bathrooms, showers, windows, etc. as instructed

· Moves furniture, tables, chairs, etc. when set up is needed for events

· Vacuums carpets and deep cleans when needed

· Cleans, disinfects, and makes up beds as directed

· Keeps carts and storerooms clean and orderly, and keeps all chemicals and cleaning agents under control and away from residents.

· Delivers dirty linen and return clean linens from laundry as needed, and reports all necessary repairs

· Delivers newspapers, mail, packages to resident units

· Takes out garbage and recycling from buildings to disposal area

· Performs any additional tasks as assigned by management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· After initial training, must demonstrate ability to utilize supplies, tools, and equipment properly

· Ability to work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines

· Demonstrate cooperative behavior with staff, colleagues, and supervisors

· Ability to understand, follow, and give instructions

Competencies and skills:

Essential:
* Must be able to organize thoughts in a clear manner, effective oral and written communication skills; must possess public speaking skills; must be an active listener and possess conflict resolution/problem solving skills.
* Knowledge of the aging process and its effect on our residents
* Knowledge of the basic services provided by residential and skilled nursing facilities and other community agencies, ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
* Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
* Ability to accept and use professional supervision, consultation and in-service training; ability to relate appropriately and effectively to residents and their families, to other staff members, and to personnel of other community agencies.
