Through our work across operators, residents, and partners, we have identified a major platform opportunity on the lender and servicing side. This requires new workflow technology, automation, and intelligence at national scale. Combined with our efforts to modernize underwriting, rating, compliance, and internal operations, the next chapter of our platform will be deeply AI driven. This role will be an early and foundational part of the broader AI team now being built at CoverTree.
About the Opportunity
This is a high-ownership, hands-on engineering role reporting directly to the CTO. You will build applied AI systems that power both external platform integrations and internal operational workflows. You will work on:
• Intelligent extraction and interpretation of PDFs, images, emails, and insurance documents
• Automated verification and normalization pipelines for structured and unstructured data
• Workflow automation for lender-connected and partner-facing systems
• AI-powered tools for underwriting, rating, compliance, and operations
• Internal automation that reduces manual review and accelerates decision-making
• Evaluation sets, monitoring, and quality guardrails for reliable output
Your work will support production systems used across states, portfolios, underwriting teams, and partner ecosystems.
Who Thrives in This Role
We are looking for someone who has shipped AI or automation systems where reliability and accuracy matter. You will excel here if you:
• Have delivered applied LLM or automation features in production
• Have experience with unstructured document processing and extraction pipelines
• Have worked in regulated or accuracy-critical environments such as fintech, lending, insurance, health, or compliance
• Operate well with ownership and minimal management layers
• Can turn complex workflows into consistent, scalable automation
• Know how to design evaluation sets, fallbacks, and monitoring to keep AI components dependable
• Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and operations

This role requires relocation to Los Angeles, CA. Candidates may begin remotely for a short transition period, but long-term presence in Santa Monica is required.
