Anticipated Physical Plant Groundskeeper/Semi Skilled Laborer

Coventry Public Schools is seeking an Anticipated Groundskeeper/Semi Skilled Laborer. JOB SPECIFICATIONS/GROUNDSKEEPER TITLE: Groundskeeper/semi-skilled laborer REPORTS TO: Director of Physical Plant PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Perform all duties pertaining to the upkeep, maintenance and beautification of all grounds and athletic fields, walkways and parking lots. Perform a variety of manual tasks which require general mechanical aptitude. Perform general skilled and unskilled manual labor; to operate farm equipment and other motor equipment and to do related work as required. IVPOSITION REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent. Four years work experience in landscaping, turf farms, nursery, gardening or similar work. Valid driver’s license. Valid phone number. Certification of ability to perform essential functions by licensed practicing physician. Knowledge of Interscholastic Rules and Regulations regarding athletic field setup. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: Must be able to stand and move for long periods of time (6 hrs.) Must be able to bend, squat and twist on a regular basis during an 8-hour shift Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. Must be able to operate motorized lawn and garden equipment Must be able to occasionally climb ladders Must be able to manually shovel snow Must be able to work outside and in different temperature environments Must be able to use and wear personal protection equipment RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Cut grass, repair damaged lawns, prune trees and hedges and take responsibility for the servicing and upkeep of the motorized lawn, garden and snow removal equipment. Responsible for the policing of grounds around all buildings as needed or designated. Operate motorized lawn and garden equipment and perform routine cleaning and maintenance of same. Remove snow and ice from walks, driveways and parking lots including the operation of snow removal and equipment. Apply wide variety of chemicals as needed on grass areas, trees or walkways and curbing. Prepare athletic fields prior to events, lining, equipment, etc. Move furnishings from one location to another for the school system. Assist maintenance repair people as helpers when needed. In winter months perform custodial tasks as outlined within the custodial job description on the 1st and 2nd shift where needed. Perform other assignments as requested by the Director of Physical Plant or his designee within reason and the broad framework of this job description. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) month position with salary, benefits and hours of work to be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
