About the Role:
The Yard Worker / Striker plays a critical role in the efficient operation of WH Lumber's retail yard by ensuring the timely and accurate handling of lumber and building materials. This position is responsible for organizing, loading, unloading, and moving inventory within the yard to support sales and customer fulfillment. The role requires close collaboration with sales staff, delivery drivers, and warehouse personnel to maintain a safe and orderly work environment. The Yard Worker / Striker contributes to customer satisfaction by preparing orders accurately and assisting with special requests or custom cuts as needed. Ultimately, this position ensures that materials are readily available and properly maintained to support the overall success of the retail trade operations at WH Lumber.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting heavy materials up to 80lbs.
- Basic knowledge of lumber and building materials.
- Valid forklift operator certification or willingness to obtain one.
- Strong attention to safety protocols and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a lumber yard or similar retail trade environment.
- Experience operating various types of yard equipment beyond forklifts.
- Good communication skills to interact with customers and team members.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and maintain productivity.
Responsibilities:
- Unload and load lumber and building materials from delivery trucks using appropriate equipment and manual labor.
