What are the responsibilities and job description for the LPN CHARGE NURSE position at COVENANT WOODS?
Job Summary: Provides professional nursing care to residents in accordance with facility policies and procedures. Is familiar with applicable regulations. Will supervise and coordinate the activities of certified nursing assistants in performing effective resident care on the designated tour of duty. Maintains clinical and professional competency. Assists with the managerial aspects of the unit, including quality assessments, problem solving, motivation of staff and evaluations.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Transcribes, verifies and implements physician’s orders.
2. Administers medications in a safe and timely manner and completes appropriate documentation.
3. Reports significant changes in condition to physician, supervisor and family.
4. Documents episodic events on residents as well as completes all required documentation, including checking MARs, Treatment Sheets and monthly summaries in a timely and accurate manner. Updates resident’s Care Plan as appropriate.
5. Makes regular rounds to assess resident care, environmental safety and employee performance.
6. Attends a minimum of 24 hours of education and/or CEU annually, including mandatory in-services. Certified in CPR.
7. Embrace and model Covenant Woods business standards, Code of Conduct, and focus on the Promise in all aspects of delivery of service.
8. Assigns resident care according to the needs of the resident and the unit. Participates in change of shift report.
9. Counsels and/or disciplines CNAs per facility policy. Assists with staff evaluations.
10. Assists in the planning, implementation and delivery of activities for residents.
11. Implements QA recommendations
12. Monitors use of supplies to maintain budget and capture chargeable items
13. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Equipment:
Medication and Treatment carts, medical supplies, O2/Respiratory Therapy equipment, Suction machine, Lab supplies, Resident Call Systems, and all current nursing equipment, including Accu-Chek and telephone and computer. May be responsible for assembling and dismantling medical equipment.
Working Conditions:
Works in a clean, well-lighted environment. May work alone or with others. Sometimes must work in noisy conditions. May be subject to exposure to infections, odors and diverse behaviors.

Qualifications:Education and Experience:
Requires graduation from an approved school of nursing with current license to practice as an LPN in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Job Specifications:
Must have good assessment, communication, clinical and interpersonal skills. Must be able to supervise and direct staff. Must be able to communicate in English.
Physical Requirements:
Work requires standing and walking for all or most of the day. Sitting, reaching, handling items, and feeling are required. Stooping, kneeling and crouching are required frequently. Must be able to lift and carry an average of ten pounds and pull weight of up to twenty-five pounds. Intact sense of sight, hearing, touch and smell are required. May be responsible for assembling and dismantling medical equipment. Finger dexterity needed.
