Function:
To oversee daily clinical operations, supervising nursing staff, ensuring high-quality resident care, and maintaining compliance with state regulations and facility policies. This role serves as the on-site clinical leader and resource for RNs, LPNs, and CNAs during the assigned shift.

Responsibilities:

  1. Monitors the delivery of resident care to ensure standards of practice are met.
  2. Assists nurses with assessments, admissions, and changes in condition.
  3. Supports wound care, fall response, behaviors, and acute clinical issues.
  4. Ensures proper medication administration and treatment completion. Documents all medications accurately as ordered by physicians.
  5. Assists physician and other interdisciplinary team members with treatments and procedures when needed.
  6. Responds to emergencies and provides clinical guidance to all employees and residents.
  7. Audits charting, MARs, TARs, and care plans for accuracy and completion.
  8. Completes incident reports, investigations, and follow-up documentation.
  9. Monitors infection control practices and reporting to ensure standard precautions, hand hygiene, injection safety, and PPE are being used according to infection control policy.
  10. Makes resident rounds and evaluates clinical activities and provides direct resident care as needed.
  11. Observes, evaluates, and documents all changes in resident conditions and notifies physician if warranted.
  12. Answers emergency calls for independent living residents and provides direct resident care for those needing Health Center assistance.
  13. Makes rounds with the Medical Director and other interdisciplinary team members and identifies need for resident referrals when necessary.
  14. Collaborates with other departments to coordinate and provide quality care for residents.
  15. Assists Director of Nursing with resident care responsibilities.
  16. Identifies resident problems, emergency situations, and initiates immediate lifesaving measures as specified in the advance directives or at the discretion of the responsible party in absence of Director of Nursing.
  17. Ensures residents have comfortable, clean, orderly, and safe environments.
  18. Addresses resident and family concerns promptly and professionally.
  19. Communicates with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members promptly and accurately.
  20. Maintains a visible presence on the floor.
  21. Creates an environment of pride and quality among all employees, encouraging them to achieve their highest potential.
  22. Supervises RNs, LPNs, and CNAs during the shift.
  23. Conducts shift huddles and assigns staffing based on resident acuity.
  24. Provides coaching, mentoring, support, and performance feedback to nursing staff.
  25. Manages callouts and staffing adjustments to ensure standards of care are met.
  26. Reviews PTO requests and authorizes or directs essential overtime, within reasonable limits.
  27. Performs employee performance management of nursing staff including evaluations and corrective action.
  28. Participates in the recruitment of nursing staff and interviews prospective employees.
  29. Assists with orientation, instruction, and supervision of other nursing personnel.
  30. Leads by example in clinical excellence by reporting to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrating dependability and punctuality.
  31. Ensures compliance with state regulations and facility policies and maintains survey readiness standards.
  32. Ensures thorough shift reports and continuity of care.
  33. Serves as liaison between nursing staff and administration.
  34. Maintains confidentiality, ensures HIPPA compliance, and respect for residents and employee privacy.
  35. Participates and attends resident care plan meetings, when needed.
  36. Assists with special resident functions, as needed.
  37. Assumes Director of Nursing duties in absence of Director of Nursing including relieving Director of Nursing on call as scheduled, when needed.
  38. Collaborates with Staff Development Coordinator with the implementation of clinical education for nursing staff.
  39. Maintains LPN/RN licensure in good standing, retains CPR BLS certification, and participates in continuing education relating to the long-term care field of nursing and leadership.
  40. Completes all assigned training by the deadline.
  41. Champions the mission, vision, and CV CARES core values of the community with all employees, residents, families, and guests.
  42. Adheres to all Covenant Village policies and procedures.
  43. Performs all tasks assigned by management in a cooperative manner.
Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • College or Nursing school diploma/degree.
  • Valid North Carolina nurses license (LPN) or (RN) in good standing.
  • At least four years’ experience as a Nurse, preferred.
  • Experience supervising others and working with the geriatric population, preferred.
  • Capable of adequately managing resident care responsibilities, as well as personnel and administrative responsibilities at the direction of the Director of Nursing.
  • Proficient computer, typing skills and internet knowledge.
  • Excellent communication, resident relations, organizational skills, customer service orientation, and leadership ability.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and as a collaborative and supportive member of a team.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Warm and personable image, demonstrating the ability to connect effectively with the senior population across diverse functional abilities. Patience and empathy are essential.
  • Adaptable, flexible and focused on meeting the needs of residents.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail and possess creativity in problem-solving and task execution.
  • Ability to give and follow instructions accurately, maintain high standards of work quality even under pressure, and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Adaptability to learn and utilize new software and technologies as needed.
  • Time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; the ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Available for on-call shifts, and emergency shifts.

 

Physical Requirements include prolonged periods of sitting, working on a computer, standing, ability to physically assist residents, pushing and pulling wheelchairs, walking long distances, ability to lift 45 pounds at times, balance, climb, crouch, pull, push, reach, stand and stoop, repetitive movements, adequate dexterity in hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
