What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Varsity Swim Coach (Seasonal) position at Covenant Day School?
The Covenant Day School Athletics Department is seeking a seasonal high school swim team head coach to lead the team beginning with the 2026-2027 season. The coach also provides vision for the Covenant Day School swim program as a whole and serves in support of the school’s mission and vision.

Responsibilities and qualifications desired:
- Establish leadership and vision for Covenant Day School’s co-ed swim program
- Must be well versed in all aspects coaching the sport; experience in High School or above levels strongly desired
- Coaching experience required along with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of coaching to teach and train student athletes from beginner through more advanced levels of the sport
- Attend and lead all scheduled practices and games
- Partner with the Athletic Director in schedule planning for swim event opportunities for the team’s season
- Instruct players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
- Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises; determine game strategies
- Assess athlete skills, monitors swimmers during competition and practice, and keeps the Athletic and/or Assistant Athletic Director informed of the athletic performance of students
- Follow established protocol in the event of an injury to an athlete
- Perform administrative tasks of the position including distributing equipment, supplies and uniforms, maintaining eligibility forms and other records, and following Covenant Day School athletics policies and procedures
- Lead and direct the program exhibiting Christian values to encourage good sportsmanship and camaraderie
- Desire to work with and mentor high school young ladies
- Responsible for carrying out requests of Athletic Department leadership and for partnering with other coaches and teams as needed.
- Committed follower of Jesus Christ reflecting a desire to serve Him and others in work and life
- Eager to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience, patience, courage, and Christian discipleship
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
Seasonal Schedule:
- Winter season sport – late October through February season commitment daily commitment. There will be some time needed prior to and after the season for preparation and administration of the program.
- Practices can vary between early morning and evening depending on facility availability
- Regular season meets will typically be on weekdays in the early evening and/or occasional Saturdays
