Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and procedures
- Perform laboratory tests, including blood work and urinalysis
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed
- Monitor animal vital signs and behavior pre- and post-surgery
- Provide proper restraint techniques for various animal species
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation
- Educate pet owners on proper care, nutrition, and preventive health measures
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the clinic or hospital environment
- Utilize aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection
- Handle animals with care, ensuring their comfort and safety
Experience
Candidates should possess the following skills and experience:
- Veterinary technician experience or equivalent training
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, and physiology
- Experience in animal handling, including dog handling and restraint techniques
- Familiarity with dental terminology and procedures related to pet care
- Background in veterinary critical care or emergency situations is a plus
- Laboratory experience for conducting diagnostic tests is preferred
- Equine experience is advantageous for those working with larger animals
- Previous kennel experience is beneficial for understanding animal husbandry practices
- Skills in pet grooming, dog training, or specialized techniques such as animal catheterization are desirable
